Vorarlberg is blessed by an abundance of water. From glacial ice to the shores of Lake Constance, the crystal-clear wet stuff seeks its way, is collected, filtered, drunk and – increasingly – is converted into electricity. The richest storage locations are in the mountainous highlands in the south of Vorarlberg, where water is collected in reservoirs and used to generate energy. The electricity generated here in Montafon feeds the whole country and is even exported. A particular showpiece of this technology is the Kopswerk II, which can generate 525 megawatts with its turbines and pumps. The history of the power plant is as impressive as its size, and group visitors can learn about everything during a special guided tour.
