4 panoramic tours in Vorarlberg

There are a few viewpoints that everyone in Vorarlberg must have seen once. And because there are quite a number of them, they are best discovered on a panoramic tour. We have selected the three most beautiful tours and present them here in brief.

Vorarlberg is small enough to enable it to present much of itself in a few hours while still being big enough to offer a wealth of variety. So it’s into the coach and off on to the A14 towards Nüziders. From there, the trip continues to the Großes Walsertal Biosphere Park, and threads its way through Sonntag and Fontanella, across the Faschinajoch to Damüls before quickly reaching the Bregenzerwald. This short tour of Vorarlberg takes in forests and meadows as well as buildings that are typical of the Walser and Bregenzerwald regions. It is always worthwhile to stop to take a few photos and enjoy the culinary delights, particularly in the Grosswalsertal valley at the Walserhäuser buildings and the biosphärenpark.haus, as well as to stock up on Bregenzerwald cheese from one of the alpine dairies. The return trip to the Rhine valley then commences with a crossing of the Bödele or the Achrain.

One thing is for sure: mountains are not hard to find in Vorarlberg. So it is not surprising that there is one or the other panoramic route to enjoy. One of the most beautiful panoramic roads in Europe is the Silvretta Hochalpenstraße (High Mountain Road). So the tour sets off on the A14 to Bludenz Montafon from where the country road winds its way through the entire length of the valley to Partenen. This is where the Silvretta High Mountain Road starts and takes travellers up to the Bielerhöhe, which connects the Montafon in Vorarlberg with the Paznaun in Tirol. This is also where the mighty 1.31-square-kilometre Silvretta reservoir is located at an altitude of more than 2,000 metres. The perfect opportunity to stretch the legs and enjoy a breath of fresh mountain air. The trip then continues to the Tirol side by way of Galtür and the Paznaun valley back to Vorarlberg and along the S16 and St. Anton am Arlberg back to the Rhine valley.

There’s almost nothing better to do on a sunny day than to take a tour of the Alps. The route along the Kleinwalsertal valley and the German alpine road is genuinely relaxing and, above all, full of views. The trip takes visitors by way of Hörbranz and the Laiblachtal valley towards Scheidegg along the German alpine road. It is famous for the picturesque scenery that accompanies the journey through the Allgäu region. The tour takes in the Kleinwalsertal on the Austrian side, where an extended stop with a coffee break or a walk is recommended. Then the route continues by crossing the Riedbergpass and Balderschwang (GER) to return to Vorarlberg and the Bregenzerwald. And back to the Rhine Valley by way of Hittisau and Alberschwende.
