Situated just outside the city of Dornbirn this is one of the largest gorges in central Europe. A signposted trail and spectacular wooden footpaths lead past breathtaking views sculpted by prehistorical geological process – as the Mesozoic sea retreated and formed the mountains of the Alps. A walk through the gorge takes around 90 minutes, around a placid reservoir, past a hundred-year-old power station, and back again. The circuit is not difficult to walk but there are many steps, with an overall climb of 100 metres up and down. It’s a stunning experience at any time of year and any weather condition.
